It has been a few days since the release of our latest Youtube instalment called “TAMILS IN CANADA” which is a parody based on Childish Gambino's "This is America" video.

The intended vision of this video was to be playful while lightly touching on some recent events that took place and highlighting racial profiling and/or racism within the Tamil community.

Now before I dive into a rant - taking it down will not change anything. A video clip has gone viral on WhatsApp to the point of no return and Zazu is now famous for chasing Tamil woman down Markham and Steeles plaza.  However, I would like to say THANK YOU to the 80% that loved the video and understood the underlying message of fighting against racial profiling.

Okay, RANT activated:

In no means is this video trying to divide two communities. We believe in unity and we are here to provide a platform for open communication and expression. This video highlights few incidents that took place in the past and one critical message in regards to snatchers. YES, we used a specific member from a different community BUT THAT DOES NOT MEAN we are promoting racism. We as a community SHOULD NOT stereotype and classify members of other communities based on specific events. SH!T happens but that doesn’t mean everyone in this world should be thrown into a bucket of hate.

As a member of the community, I am disappointed in the way certain individuals have reacted.  Zazu (Osasu Oke) is the main host of Whistle Adi who enjoys watching Tamil movies and eating spicy kothu roti.  We still receive “hate messages” time to time in our comments section and that’s just nature of the beast. We will continue to promote love and keep creating videos challenging the status quo.

As a creator, I am satisfied and this is just the beginning [insert Mankatha beat].
