Welcome to TamilCulture.com's podcast, Identity! I'm your host Jeevan Ravindran. I'm a journalist, presenter and actress based in London.
What is my Identity? It's a question that we all seek to answer in our own ways throughout our lives. Each episode of Identity spotlights a different creative, some from the Tamil community and some from outside it, who will be chatting about how we take ownership of our narratives, art, politics and of course who we are. We hope to inspire you through their unique stories of seeking and finding Identity.

In this episode, we chat with Sinthujan Varatharajah—an author, political geographer, and essayist based in Berlin. Their work challenges traditional notions of belonging, migration, and culture. Sinthujan is the author of an alle orte, die hinter uns liegen (To All the Places We Have Left Behind), a German-language book exploring global colonialism and European asylum policies.
Our conversation delves into how we often find home in people rather than places. We also discuss their reflections on the performative nature of progress and wealth, as well as the divide between the diaspora and the homeland—and how it shapes our identities.
