October 9th was a day to remember in Toronto. TamilCulture and Ideal Incubator teamed up to present the very first #WhatsHerStory event showcasing seven panelists who shared their stories of being a Tamil female entrepreneur.

One of the panelists was none other than Shivanu Thiyagarajah, the President and Co-Founder of this very media publication TamilCulture. The host of the night was Koby Yogaretnam, the man from London who has brought Pothy’s from India to London and Toronto.

The ladies came to share their stories of how they overcame all their hurdles, such that the younger and current generation take risks and follow their dreams into the entrepreneurial world.

Koby has a unique story. He is from London, England and often visits Canada. Through his networking, Koby says,

“Toronto has an abundance of Tamil female talent that have a hunger to succeed in entrepreneurial activities.”

He was right. The room was filled with women and the guest list was packed with women from Toronto far and wide. There was a hunger to learn how these seven panelists were successful and how they are still making it work.

One of the panelists took the MCAT twice thinking she will go to medical school, but discovered her passion of photography, fashion and saris. Another used her love for photography and raised money for communities in Sri Lanka with an annual photo auction. As you can see, these ladies have followed their passions and given back to the world.

The one thing that can be collectively said about that night was that the community came together to support the women in the Toronto area, showing them that they are there to be a fellow support, partner or helping hand.

If you have questions about when the next event is, where it could be, or you have any ideas that could contribute to this series of events, feel free to contact us at info@tamilculture.com.
