"Since 2009, it can be said that a new period in the Tamil poetic tradition has begun, namely the Trans/national Period. This period has seen the Tamil poetic traditions of the Sangam era contemporized by 1.5- and second-generation Tamils and articulated in English and other dominant languages of the countries they consider home. These transnational millennial poets, both men and women, draw on their Tamil culture as much as they do on the environments they were raised in by their diaspora parents. These are poets who navigate and negotiate between these new Akam-s and puṟam-s."
