Senthoora, her debut film song by acclaimed music director D. Imman from the Tamil film Bogan, was her claim to fame, where she was nominated for Filmfare South Best Playback Singer Female amongst names like Shreya Ghoshal and Neeti Mohan, and brought home awards from Mirchi Music, SIIMA and other noteworthy international film awards. After several more film songs and collaborative independent release, Far Away is Luksimi’s debut as a singer-songwriter. The song is produced by Indo-American singer/songwriter Rianjali.

Far Away explores the topic of mental health, and communicates the angst of those who suffer from mental illness, as well as those around them. The music video, directed and produced by Butterfly Squad, depicts a young girl who experiences trauma as a child, leading to depression and self-inflicted physical pain as she grows up. Mental health has been taboo in the South Asian community for generations and has only recently come to the forefront of discussions, to raise awareness, change the perception amongst South Asians surrounding mental health, and encourage those experiencing mental illness to seek help and support.

“Writing my own music has always been a dream! Far Away is my first single and one that expresses an important and relevant subject, I was definitely nervous but excited to write a song that connects with my listeners around the world. I’m so happy that I got to begin my independent music journey with the talented singer/songwriter Rianjali Bhowmick! This song is very special to me and I hope it helps propel conversations about mental health awareness to help get rid of the stigma.”

Produced by Rianjali, the track is soulful and musically connects to the heart of the listener. Rianjali has worked in various capacities with personalities including A.R. Rahman, U2, Shawn Mendes and has several accolades to her name. Speaking about Far Away, Rianjali says “Working with Luksimi to make her debut original single was such a pleasure not only because she’s an awesome human but also because supporting independent artists like her is super important to me. Music production for me isn’t like most music producers. As a singer/songwriter, I think in terms of lyrics and melodies-wrapping my production around the basic bones of a great song. Because of this, Luksimi and I meshed really well during the process.  Being an indie artist myself, I know how it feels to finally get to show the world your own work. I’m so happy to have been a part of that for her.”

Far Away is out now on all streaming platforms and YouTube.
