“Puthiya Paathai: Our Journey to Wellness” Campaign

A Tamil Canadian Mental Health Awareness Campaign

The Tamil Canadian Centre for Civic Action, a non-profit organization working towards the success of all Tamil Canadians in various spheres of Canada through education, engagement, training, research, and collaboration.

In the month of August, we are planning a mental health awareness campaign in the Tamil Community. Within the past few years, our community has lost so many bright lives due to mental illness, and we believe it is time to do more than start a conversation after every tragedy: we need to create large scale awareness in the community and eradicate the stigma surrounding mental health.

The purpose of the month long campaign, titled “Puthiya Paathai: Our Journey to Wellness” is three-fold:

1.    To increase awareness about the importance of mental health and well-being

2.    To increase awareness about services, resources and tools available to promote and support mental health in our community

3.    To advocate for increased availability and accessibility of culturally and linguistically sensitive support

Puthiya Paathai means "New Path" in English, as our goal is to show mental health in a new light and find talk about it more to eradicate stigma. We humbly invite you to join hands with us and help create the dialogue that our families need to have.

We would like to thank the following organizations for already joining hands with us and participating in this campaign:
