Enjoy Enjaami is the first album from Maajja, the record label founded by the academy awards-winning Tamil musician A.R. Rahman to support independent artists and provide them with an international platform.
Dhee & Arivu are the young, Tamil, independent artists from Chennai who sang Enjoy Enjaami that packs a punch with its powerful and vibrant lyrics on Soil, Global Warming, Farming, Tamil Culture, and our Happy Co-existence. The entire song is a piece of advice to Tamil youth from their grandfathers & grandmothers on how to live a happy life, how to take care of the environment, how to embrace nature, and how to co-exist without any discrimination of caste, religion, and race.
Lines like "Nallapadi Vaazhacholli Indha Manna Koduthaane Poorvakudi" remind us of the beautiful living environment bequeathed to us by our ancestors and leaves a huge question of whether will it be the same for our kids. While the west has more exposure to concerns around climate change and global warming, the suburban youth of Tamil Nadu and Jaffna still don't feel the seriousness of this issue. It's not just a song with an addictive humming tune, it's a starting point to educate the future generation on the serious environmental issues at hand.
Some of my favorite lines:
- Nallapadi vaazhacholli indha manna koduthane poorvakudi…’ (our ancestors bequeathed us this land with their blessings)
- Nayi nari poonaikundhan indha erikkolam kooda sondhammadi…’ (The dog, the fox, the cat they too own these lakes and ponds)
- Thottam sezhithalum en thonda nanaiyalaye’ (My garden flourishes but my throat stays dry)
