Reflecting Back on May 18th and the Struggle for Tamil Independence in Sri Lanka

May 18. I still remember that day so clearly, I was 14 years old. My family and I were driving back home from Sydney after a protest. We were in the car. My mother gets a call…all I hear from her conversation is ‘Aiyo’ as she starts crying and screaming.
