Long before the likes of Kollywood starlets Trisha, Nayanthra, and Asin graced the silver screen, there were many beautiful and talented women who paved the way for today’s Tamil actresses. Find out who they are below, in our list of some of the most memorable actresses from the past few decades.

The 70s

Sri Devi

While Sri Devi is still fairly well known today, many people are not aware of the vast number of Tamil movies that she starred in from the 60s to the mid 80s. Two of our favourite Sri Devi movies are Moondram Pirai with Kamal Hassan Nann Adimai Illai with Rajini.

Sujatha

While the height of her success was in the 70s, Sujatha's film career spanned decades until her death in 2011. Some of her starring roles include a role alongside Sivaji in Andaman Kathali and Aval Oru Thodharkadai with Kamal Hassan.

The 80s

Amala

Born to an Irish mother and a Bengali father, Amala had a stunning presence on screen. Some of her more notable Tamil films include Agni Natchathiram with Prabu and Karthik and Kodi Parakuthu with Rajini.

Revathi

An award winning actress who starred in such blockbuster hits as Mani Ratnam’s Mouna Ragam—you definitely want to watch one of Revathi's movies to truly appreciate her talent!

The 90s

Nagma

The sister of another popular Tamil actress, Jyothika, Nagma starred in many 90s box office hits such as Kadhalan alongside Prabu Dheva and Baasha alongside Rajini. Not only can she act, but she can definitely bust a move!

Meena

With doe-like eyes that captivated many during the 90s, Meena has acted in numerous films with some of Kollywood’s leading men. Her film credits include Muthu and Yejaman, both starring Rajini.
