About the featured speaker, Dunya Habitats Cofounder/Chief Strategy Officer Sumi Shan:

Sumi Shan is the co-founder, and the Chief Strategy Officer at Dunya Habitats - a mission-based agritech startup that provides sustainable indoor farming solutions to support local food systems.
Sumi is a serial entrepreneur and former political advisor, candidate and an award-winning management professional who has worked with tech giants like Microsoft, early-stage startups, governments and not-for-profits over the last 18+ years. She is also the Founder & Principal Consultant at Niche Strategies, a boutique marketing agency; and a Board member at Infinite Enviro Solutions – a water purification and waste management company.
Being a daughter of a refugee & smallholder farmer, Sumi is a social doer who is keenly interested in advancing innovation to tackle social challenges, supporting more women in leadership and in government.

 

Dunya is a responsible mission-based agritech start-up based in Canada, that delivers a proven commercial-grade year-round sustainable farming solution to help optimize crop production in any climate condition using hydroponics and data analytics.

It all started with the Dunya Project and our earnest desire to find a technology to help address the problem of global food insecurity. After significant investment and development, the outcome is our commercial-grade ‘Tiny Farms’ solution (Dunya Habitats) that were then proven with the help of Canadian farmers.  While commercially available to users of all kinds, as a ‘modular’ solution represents a technological leap forward - with market adoption and continued production efficiencies, we hope to make a difference around the world.
