Madhan Karky,  the eldest son of notable Tamil poet and lyricist Vairamuthu, was born just at the moment his father was penning his first lyric.

Madhan Karky made his debut in Kollywood as a Lyricist with the 2010 science-fiction film Enthiran, penning the song ‘Irumbile Oru Irudhaiyam’. For the same film, he had assisted director Shankar in writing the film's dialogues, especially assisting with the technical terminology.

While ‘Irumbile’ gave him the start that he wanted, it's the song ‘Enamo Aedho’ from the movie Ko, that introduced him to Tamils all over the world; the song that was leading the charts for 6 months.

Karky, the lyricist of hit songs such as Google Google, Nee Korinaal, Ladio, Pookkalae Sattru Oyivedungal and Selfie Pulla (to name a few), is also a Lyric engineer, Software Engineer, Assistant Professor, Research Associate and Film Dialogue Writer.

Madhan Karky completed his Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science Engineering at CEG, Chennai. He further completed his Postgraduate studies and PhD in Computer Science at the University of Queensland, Brisbane, Australia. During his stay in Australia, he was selected as the Vice-President of the Tamil Association of Queensland and also co-founded Tamil Brisbane Inc.

In order to communicate with Chinese students in his research group there, he went on to  complete 3 levels of courses in Mandarin with high proficiency, which helped him pen ‘The rise of Damo’ a Chinese language song in the movie ‘7 am Aarivu.’

Madhan, who was reciting Thirukurals when he was just 9 months old, found his interest in Tamil computing during his final year of Engineering. Currently, he is the Founder and Head of ‘Karky Research Foundation’ (KaReFo), a non-profit organization which looks at creating an optimal script set for the Tamil language that will be simple to learn, type and display. @KaReFo, a team of engineers are attempting to re-imagine the script of one of the oldest surviving classical languages in the world. The various tools developed by KaReFo can be deliberated altogether in another article.
