In December the singer/songwriter/producer shared an open letter to his fans on his tumblr as they eagerly awaited his new single. It's a rare look into this talented artist's perspective on his music: "Dec. 19, 2013

January is Coming

Numbers have always been an enigma to me.

I didn’t really pay attention to math when I was a kid, because there was never anything about it that inspired me. I absolutely hated math in high school; initially I thought it was because I was lazy but I realized it was much more than that.

2013 has been one of the most interesting, frustrating, yet introspective years of my life. Might sound cliche, but through everything the one constant has been a search for a higher truth. Beneath all the success, the first glimpses of “fame”, and the pressures of making money, there’s constantly been a voice in my head asking me a couple questions.

“Why are you doing this?”

“Why do you create and why do you want the world to hear what you sing?”.

With this voice in the back of my head, I’ve gained a clearer idea of what I perceive to be beautiful. By observing the world more closely than ever, I’ve realized that I find beauty in the fact that nothing is one dimensional. There is pain in beauty, beauty in pain, ugly has glimpses of gorgeous, happiness and sadness are alarmingly similar, anger is often fear masked in insecurity, and that right and wrong are EXTREMELY relative terms.

I recently made the decision to spend less time online. I wasn’t completely sure why but I knew that the time I spent tweeting, reading other people’s posts, etc. was depressing the s*#t out of me. In this era of social networks, half-processed thoughts get thrown into the world and are often accepted as truth. Now, more than ever, we look at everything as black or white, right or wrong, complete success or utter failure.

Since I was a kid, I’ve disliked numbers because when they are associated with human beings, everything becomes finite, everything becomes limited; when in actuality life is boundless, perspectives are infinite, and life’s beauty is the fact that there are no real definite truths. EVERYTHING is an experience that has so many different dimensions, and how each individual reacts and digests these dimensions IS beautiful.

Why do I create, and why do I want the world to listen to what I create? I want to communicate this beauty that I see, hear, feel and experience. I want to communicate the fact that there is beauty everywhere, that every single aspect of life can be so many different things at once, that contradictions and paradoxes are NOT concepts to be ashamed of. I want to communicate that although it’s easy to get caught up in tweets, likes, views, $$, ratings, grades, life is so much more gratifying once we understand that it is not a numbers game.

I love all of you who have taken the time to read this, listen to my music, and become one with the message I am striving to put forth.

All love, No Hate. January is Coming, don’t be afraid.
