Behind Woods has called him the man of the moment. Galatta.com has declared him to be a sensational hit maker. And there’s no questioning it—we are watching something incredible unfold for the youngest composer in the Tamil film industry.

Anirudh Ravichander burst onto the scene in 2011 with a viral sensation that is still making its mark. In early October, nearly 4 years after the song first hit the airwaves, “Why This Kolaveri Di became the highest viewed Indian video on YouTube with over 99 million views. The views of fan made tributes to the song by way of covers, flash mobs and parodies sits at around 500 million. So much for 25 sitting on 25 mill. Anirudh is smashing records while crossing boundaries and genres.

The celebrated composer recently marked his birthday with music lovers everywhere by releasing one of his most anticipated soundtracks of the year. His work for Ajith’s Vedalam, aka Thala56, marks another Kollywood legend that he has created hits with. It’s also his latest in a series of collaborations through which he has introduced a famed artist to Tamil cinema; in this case Badshah for “Aluma Doluma”.

2015 has been Anirudh’s winningest year with 5 accolades, and many nominations, to his credit in the categories of Best Music Director, Best Background Score and Favourite Song from the Edison Awards, South Indian International Movie Awards, Vijay Awards and Filmfare Awards South. He received two of his Best Music Director nods for Kaththi. And if you’ve heard the soundtrack, it’s no wonder why. The combination of Vijay and other prominent artists’ vocals set to Anirudh’s compositions never fails to get fans singing and dancing.

Talent runs deep in Anirudh’s family, as his father is an actor, his mother is a dancer and you might just know his uncle, Rajinikanth, or his cousin and her husband, Aishwarya and Dhanush. Being surrounded by so much inspiration it’s easy to see how he would have developed his love for music and has been inspired to create such an extraordinary range of mass hits and melodic tunes.

Anirudh recently sang his first Kannada song for the upcoming film Jwalantham, adding to his repertoire that includes Tamil, Hindi and Telegu songs. His versatility has led to a steady stream of invitations to be featured on soundtracks and it’s not uncommon to see him make a cameo in films he composes for.

There’s no doubt that this is Anirudh’s year and fortunately for fans in Toronto, he’s chosen the 6ix to be the backdrop for his next concert. On December 12th he will be performing, alongside his team of 30 talented artists, in North America for the very first time and Arya Canada Inc is pulling out all the stops to throw him, and over 4000 of his fans, an unforgettable party.

Kettikari
I'm Bruno, and I'm a kettikaran. Kettikaran is a Tamil masculine word used to describe a male who is successful at achieving something great; in other words, a winner (kettikari for females). For the last few months, this is what a few elders within the Sri Lankan-Tamil community have been telling me - that I’m a winner. No, I didn’t receive a scholarship to school; I didn’t score the winning goal to help my team win the league trophy; I didn’t discover a medical breakthrough. So, what did I do to be bathed with such a commemorative label? Well, I fathered a son as my first child.
